UCLA concluded the regional with a score of +17, 869.
Just two and a half weeks ago, the Bruins headed to the Big Ten Championships with a 54-58-4 record needing to finish seventh or better in order to qualify for the NCAA Tournament with a .500 record. UCLA accomplished exactly that, climbing one spot with the conclusion of the final round of the Big Ten Championships into seventh (+18) while USC fell two spots to ninth (+20).
A solid first two rounds by the Bruins at this week’s NCAA Charlottesville Regional put them in second place and 10 strokes above the cut line heading into today’s final 18. UCLA weathered through a +16 in the third round, dropping three spots and finishing seven strokes above sixth-place N.C. State to remain in the advancing top-5. The Bruins were also buoyed by key finishes earlier in their spring schedule. A podium finish for the first team title of the season at the Bruin Wave Invitational and a fourth-place spot at the highly-competitive PING/ASU Invitational were essential in keeping postseason hopes alive.
The Bruins were led by a pair of top-20 finishers in freshmen Angela Liu (8th, +1) and Maye Huang (T-18th, +4). Liu closed the Regional with a +5, 76 in the final round to secure the second top-10 of her early college career. Huang was steady down the final stretch of round three with pars on each of the final six holes to notch UCLA’s lowest score of the day with a +2, 73.
Freshman Francesca Fiorellini was subbed in for the final round and provided a key counting score with a +3, 74.
South Carolina won the team title at the NCAA Charlottesville Regional by 11 strokes at -2, 850. N.C. State’s Mari Madsen rose three spots on the leaderboard on day three thanks to a -3, 68 to claim medalist honors.
UCLA will be making its 35th team appearance in the NCAA Championships from May 16-21 at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif. The Bruins are advancing to the NCAA Championships for the second straight year under head coach Alicia Um Holmes.

Women’s Golf in Second Place After Day One at NCAA Regionals
May 5, 2025
The UCLA women’s golf team opened the first round of the NCAA Charlottesville Regional at Birdwood Golf Course with a -3, 281 Monday afternoon. The Bruins are in second place in the 12-team regional field and need to finish above fifth or better to advance to the NCAA Championships.
UCLA trails first-place South Carolina (-7) by four strokes heading into tomorrow’s second round. The Bruins’ five-count-four score of 281 is their second-lowest as a team this season and their best mark since round two of the Illini Women’s Invitational played last October.
UCLA opened round one on the par 71 layout at Birdwood Golf Club on the 10th hole.
The Bruins were led by impressive performances by freshmen Angela Liu and Maye Huang. Liu matched the lowest 18-hole score of her early college career with a -3, 68 to put her in a tie for third place and one stroke back of clubhouse leaders Paula Francisco (Florida) and Louise Rydqvist (South Carolina). Liu totaled four birdies in round one with three coming on par 4s and one on the par 3 ninth.
“I think today I was just mainly focusing step-by-step, going through my mental process and hitting it one shot at a time,” Liu said. “Just really being patient (is key). It’s a 54-hole competition.”
“I think nerves is just a mindset,” said Liu when asked about contributing as a freshman. “I’m just going out there trying to hit my best shot. Whatever score turns out, that’s what it is.”
Huang signed off on a career-low -1, 70 in Monday’s opening round. After the turn, Huang birdied three of her next six holes to get to under par before bogeying the seventh and finishing 1-under. Huang is currently in a tie for seventh.
Senior Natalie Vo (T-11th) added a steady even-par 71 with two birdies.
Tiffany Le (T-18th) joined Vo and the two freshmen in the top 20 of the 66-golfer field with a +1, 72. Le’s round was marred by two double bogeys on the close-out 18th and 9th holes. She racked up six birdies on day one.
